Junior Ben Crawford tabbed his sixth double-double of the season and first-year Pierre Coffy nearly matched his season-high but the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team fought hard, ultimately falling to Union 81-73 in Liberty League play Saturday afternoon in Burkman Gymnasium.

Crawford recorded 16 points and 13 rebounds, shooting 6-for-13 from the field and 2-for-3 from the arc, while Coffy added 18 points and seven rebounds for the Saints. Chris Miner and Brandon Arnold each added 13 points and five rebounds. Miner also posted a team-high three blocks while Coffy and Crawford added two steals each.

Evenly matched from the start, the Dutchmen quickly took control with an 11-point lead off a 3-pointer from Aaron Gordon just past the 13 minute mark of the first half. Brandon Arnold narrowed the Dutchmen's lead to five with a layup at 7:33.

Miner cut Union's lead to only one point with a minute to play, but Matt Liquori landed a buzzer-beating 3-pointer giving the Dutchmen a 45-40 advantage at halftime.

The Scarlet and Brown took their first lead of the game since the opening minutes on a 3-pointer from Crawford with almost 16 minutes to play in the second. Greg King tied it up at 49 going 1-for-2 from the line. Union regained control and held the lead for the remainder of the game.

Four members of the Dutchmen's squad recorded double-digits with the win. King led the team with 18 points and seven rebounds, while Kevin Weckworth and Liquori each added 16 points for Union. Brendan Laing rounded out the top four scorers with 13 points.

The Saints proved their resiliency narrowing the Dutchmen's lead multiple times down the stretch.

The Saints edged the Dutchmen in both offensive and defensive rebounds, 42-33 overall. Union in turn out blocked the Saints 6-4.

With today's loss, the Saints fell to 3-11 on the season, while Union improved to 7-5 and 3-3.

The Saints will host RIT and Hobart on January 19-20.
