Junior co-captain Garrett Sharlow recorded a game-high 19 points as the St. Lawrence University men's basketball team defeated the Potsdam State Bears in the Welsh Gymnasium in Potsdam, NY, Tuesday night.

The victory is the team's second in a row, as the Saints improve to 3-4 on the season while Potsdam State moves to 2-4.

"I am happy we made some shots today," said Head Coach Chris Downs. "Potsdam State is a good team and it was just our night."

Sharlow led all scorers with 19 points and was a perfect 4-for-4 from behind the arc, while adding five rebounds and two steals. Classmate Ralph Temgoua added 13 points, eight rebounds and three steals followed by Terry Parham who added 12 points, eight coming in the second half, and three steals.

The two teams battled back-and-forth for the first 10:00 with neither team able to build a substantial lead. The Saints then went on a 14-4 run anchored by Parham and sophomore Nick Meunier to give St. Lawrence a 24-13 lead. A jumper by Potsdam's Brad Drysdale pulled the Bears to within eight, 27-19, however, a three-pointer at the buzzer by sophomore Kyle Miller gave the Scarlet and Brown a 30-19 advantage and momentum going into the second half.

Sharlow led the Saints in the opening 20:00 minutes with eight points and four rebounds, while Temgoua added six points and six rebounds.

St. Lawrence continued to roll past the Bears in the final stanza as the Scarlet and Brown extended its advantage to as many as 27 points. The Saints shot 63.0% from the floor in the half, making 17-of-27 shots attempted, while limiting its own turnovers to only three.
