St. Lawrence University first-year student Carmen MacDonald was named ECAC Hockey's Goaltender of the Month on Thursday after posting an outstanding month of January.
MacDonald had a superb stretch in the first month of 2012, posting a 1.49 goals-against average and a .943 save percentage in nine games. Her play helped the Saints to a nine-game unbeaten streak, tops in the nation, and a 7-1-1 record including wins against nationally-ranked No. 4 Boston College and No. 7 Northeastern.
"Carmen, like our entire team, has been able to elevate her play for the past month," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells. "She has certainly been a big reason for our strong second half play."
Cornell senior forward Rebecca Johnston was named ECAC Hockey's Player of the Month, having racked up 15 points (9g,6a) in January, while Rensselaer's Eleeza Cox earned Rookie of the Month honors for 11 points (6g,5a) in the month.
MacDonald and the Saints will play their final two home games of the regular season this weekend, as they welcome Yale and Brown to Canton, NY on Friday and Saturday, respectively.
