Saints Lillie fourth, Martell seventh in NYSCTC Decathlon

St. Lawrence University junior Shawn Lillie finished fourth and classmate J.T. Martell finished seventh in the 2014 New York State Collegiate Track College Decathlon Championship at RIT on Monday, giving the Saints seven points in the team standings for the upcoming NYSCTC Championships.

Lillie held fourth after the first five events and maintained his position in the second half of the competition on Monday. Martell also held position after Sunday's first five events. Lillie finished with 5476 points with Martell at 5028.

Lillie was fourth at the halfway point, his total of 3185 points helped along by a win in the shot put with a 12.36 meter throw worth 628 points. He also scored well in the 100 with a second place in 11.32 for 791 points and had a 6.38 meter long jump worth 670 points, a 1.65 meter high jump for 504 points and ran the 400 in 55.16 for 592 points.

J.T. Martell was seventh at the mid-point with 2812 points, 673 of which came on a 11.89 100 time. Will Moynihan was 10th through five events with 2118 points, but did not finish on Monday.

Lillie's big point event on Monday was the 110 hurdles where he earned 596 points for a 17.27 clocking. He threw the discus 28.24 meters for 430 points, pole vaulted 2.35 meters for 418 points. threw the javelin 36.67 meters for 394 points and ran the 1500 in 5:19.48 for 459 points.

Martell won the javelin portion of the competition with a throw for 53.69 meters, worth 643 points and ran the 1500 in 4:34.75, finishing second for 715 points, but no-heighted in the pole vault. He scored 444 points with a 18.86 finish in the hurdles and threw the discus 26.96 meters for 405 points.
