Saints host tennis Fall Classic this weekend

CANTON--Three individual Saints and a doubles team advance to the next rounds as the St. Lawrence University men's tennis team hosts the the Fall Classic at the Sammis Tennis Courts. 

In doubles action, Tony Wilkey and Philip Jackley defeated RIT's Clayton Tontarski and Neville Bilimoria 9-7 to advance to the second round.  They will face Hamilton's Jon Franzel and Mike Moreno today in the third round doubles on day two of the Classic. 

In "A" singles, Philip Jackley ended the day with two wins.  He defeated University of Rochester's Boris Borovcanin 6-4, 7-5.  The Wayzata, MN native then went on defeat Hamilton's Jon Franzel 6-2, 3-6, 13-11 after facing match point.  Jackley will face Jimmy Newton (IC) in the third round of singles. 

Sophomore Michael Hayden also advanced to the third round of singles, winning two matches of his own.  Hayden defeated Josh Berggrun (IC) 6-3, 6-4 and Jordan Petit (Hamilton) 6-3, 6-3.  Hayden, a Greenwich, CT native, will battle Ithaca College's Josh Rifkin for a spot in the championship match.

In "B" singles, senior Will Cook come out on top of two matches in third set super tie-breakers.  In his first match, Cook defeated Alex Magill (UR) 3-6, 6-4, 14-12 after facing a match point.  The Brookline, MA native then went on to defeat Coby Berman (Hamilton) 6-3, 2-6, 10-7 to advance to the third round of "B" singles. 

The semi-finals and finals of the Fall Classic will be played Sunday, September 19th at the Sammis Tennis Courts.
