The St. Lawrence University men's basketball team scored a season-high 89 points on Friday night, led by Willie Zachery's 22 points en route to a 89-83 Liberty League win over Union College in Canton, NY.

Zachery was 10-of-11 at the free throw line including some key shots down the stretch to solidify the win. Captain Brady Condlin had 18 points and seven rebounds, while Leondre Simmon (13 points, 5 assists) and Kaleb Faison (14 points, 7 rebounds) scored career-highs, as they came up with dynamic plays on both ends of the floor including a rim-shaking dunk by Faison to spark the Saints (7-6, 2-3) in the first half.

Union (8-6, 2-3) was led by Terell Winney and William Hython, who scored 21 and 20 points, respectively, with Hython finishing with a double-double (10 rebounds). Deshon Burgess (17 points) and Ryan Whelpley (13 points) also scored in double-figures, but the Dutchmen were unable to overcome 17 turnovers and 29 fouls despite shooting 51% from the floor and 50% from behind the arc (10-of-20). Free throw shooting proved to be key for St. Lawrence, which shot 76% from the line to Union's 61%.

St. Lawrence held a 44-39 advantage at the break having shot nearly 60% (16-of-27) from the field. Zachery and Simmon each had 10 points to lead the home team, while Hython's 14 kept the visitors well within striking distance. With the game tied at 39-39 with 1:03 to play in the half, Kyle Kobis came up with a steal and set up Faison for an uncontested jam that put the home team up 41-39. The Atlanta, GA native would then convert on a lay-up just seconds later, and a Kobis free throw helped the team match its largest lead of the half at five heading into intermission.

Union responded early in the second half, using a 12-4 run to reclaim the lead at 51-48 on a lay-up by Whelpley. The teams exchanged blows throughout the period, with both teams making great plays on the offensive end to keep it tied 62-62 with 9:26 remaining. Condlin gave the Saints a boost in the final minutes with some big buckets on the interior, converting two and-1 plays to help build a 70-65 lead.

The Dutchmen had a few costly misses and turnovers that forced them to begin fouling with 1:04 left, as Zachery hit two free throws to put St. Lawrence up 79-71. Though Union would hit two three pointers in the final minute, the home team made big shots at the charity stripe to keep a multi-possession lead intact. The Dutchmen's last hopes faded on a missed free throw by Burgess that would've made it a three-point game with :07 seconds left, allowing the Saints to hang on for the conference victory.

The Saints finished with a 38-28 advantage in points in the paint, a 15-6 lead in second chance points, and a 19-10 edge in points off turnovers.
