St. Lawrence University's riding team could not have had a better day on the first of back-to-back Intercollegiate Horse Show Association Zone 2, Region 2 horse shows at the Elsa Gunnison Appleton Riding Hall on Saturday.
Not only did the Saint team riders win each of the first seven events to post a perfect score of 49, SLU also had both the High Point Rider and the Reserve High Point rider as both junior Emily D'Alessandro and sophomore Sarah Buck won two events each with D'Alessandro winning the ride-off for her second High Point Rider title of the season.
D'Alessandro won the scoring classes in both open equitation over fences and open equitation on the flat, while Buck won her class of intermediate equitation over fences and intermediate equitation on the flat.
In the team competition, which awards seven points for an event victory with second place taking five, third place four, etc., sophomore Annie Lufkin won in intermediate equitation over fences, first year Lillie Smith in novice equitation over fences, Jesse Lewis in intermediate equitation on the flat, Leah Menaul in novice equitation on the flat and when first year Justina Bagger won in advanced walk-trot-canter, the Saints could scratch their walk-trot rider after running seven consecutive sevens to post the perfect score.
Other Saint winners in Saturday's show included Emma Sutphen in open equitation on the flat, Morgan Oakes in novice on the flat and Julia Robinson in advanced walk-trot-canter. Lufkin took second in novice on the flat, while Mackenzie Alderman was third and Alyssa Bokor fourth in open over fences, Oakes fourth in intermediate over fences, and Sophie Miller third in novice over fences.
The Saints will conclude the fall portion of the show season with the second of their weekend series at home beginning at 9 a.m. on Sunday.
