Saint's Fredericks will compete in NCAA men's hurdles

St. Lawrence University's women's track and field will have its largest representation at the 2013 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships in program history and the women will be joined by senior hurdler Jake Fredericks as competition gets underway Thursday in LaCrosse, WI.

Fredericks is the lone male qualifier for the Saints and jumped up to fifth in the national rankings with a time of 14.44 in the 110 hurdles at the ECAC Championships. He is making his first NCAA appearance and will run in the preliminaries on Friday at 5:25 p.m.

Five women qualified for individual events and the Saints will send a relay to the national championships for the first time in program history.

Senior Caroline Raue qualified for both the 3000 meter steeplechase (preliminary Thursday 7:50 p.m. and final Saturday 1:45 p.m.) and the 5000 meters (Saturday, 5:30 p.m.). Raue has a season's best of 10:57.83 in the steeplechase and 17:09.21 in the 5000 meters.

Grad student Elizabeth Edwards will run in the 10,000 meters, qualifying 12th with a time of 36:04.05. The final in that event will be run at 6:20 p.m. on Thursday.

Both sophomore Carly Stine and senior Jessica Marini will run in both the 400 meter hurdles and on the 4x400 relay team. Stine has the 10th best time in the nation at 1:01.78 and Marini the 21st at 1:02.59 in the hurdles and they will compete in the preliminaries at 5:05 on Thursday with the final to be run at 4:45 on Saturday. They will be joined by freshman Marisa Turner and junior Hannah Kinsey with freshman Sydney Bell also making the trip as an alternate for the 4x400 relay. Prelims in that event will be run at 9 pm. on Thursday with the final at 6:20 on Saturday. The Saints have a season's best of 3:51.31 run at Oneonta on May 11 which is the 18th best time in the nation this season.

Sophomore Divya Biswal will complete the Saint contingent in Wisconsin as she will compete in the triple jump for the second consecutive season. The runner-up in the NCAA Indoor Championships in March, she has the sixth best distance nationally this season with a 12.01 meter mark set at the ECAC Championships. The triple jump will take place at 3:20 on Saturday.
