The St. Lawrence University football team defeated the University of Rochester on Saturday afternoon by the score of31-6, posting the Saints' first win in Fauver Stadium since 1997. Chyron Brown-Wallace and Mike Lefflbine, the reigning Liberty League and ECAC Northwest Defensive and Offensive Players of the Week, were once again outstanding in helping the Saints pick up their third straight win.

The 25-point victory is the largest margin of victory for St. Lawrence at Rochester in University history, as the Saints improve to 4-1 (2-0). Rochester (2-2, 0-2) was outgained 341-201 in the game and was unable to rally out of a 24-0 deficit.

Brown-Wallace led the defense with a team-high nine tackles, including 3.0 for a loss and 1.5 sacks. Lefflbine, meanwhile, was 25-for-37 against the league's top-ranked pass defense for 238 yards and two touchdowns while also rushing for the game's first touchdown. Rochester quarterbacks Jordan Golinowski and Dan Bronson combined to complete 8-for-21 passes for only 54 yards, as the Yellowjackets lone points came on a 57-yard touchdown run by Myles Allen. St. Lawrence was able to stay atop the conference standings despite 13 penalties for 123 yards.

A sack by Brown-Wallace on Rochester's first drive allowed St. Lawrence to take over at the home team's 47-yard line. Lefflbine found the Liberty League's leading receiver Mitch Gallagher for 12 yards before Maurice Irby scampered for 22 more down to the 3-yard line. After three incomplete passes, the Saints went for it on fourth down, and Lefflbine used a QB sneak behind the left side for the score and a 6-0 lead with 4:02 to go in the first quarter. Andrew Carvalho's extra point made it 7-0.

The Saints defense applied consistent pressure on Golinowski and bottled up the running game to force four consecutive punts. Carvalho added a career-long 36-yard field goal with 5:26 to go in the first half to make it 10-0, before Rochester gambled late in the half and came up empty. The Yellowjackets tried a fake punt on 4th-and-10 at their own 24-yard line, and following an incomplete pass, St. Lawrence took over possession deep in Rochester territory. Lefflbine would find Chris Shannon on back-to-back completions including a 14-yard touchdown pass with 2:57 remaining in the quarter, and Carvalho's extra point made it 17-0 heading into halftime.

Rochester advanced as far as the St. Lawrence 28-yard line in the first half before a Jayson Leigh sack forced a punt. The Saints outgained the Yellowjackets 203-51 in yards and 12-3 in first downs in the opening 30:00 minutes.

After another defensive stand, James Holley-Grisham started another scoring drive with a season-long 45 yard punt return to the Yellowjackets 29-yard line. After a big 3rd-and-11 conversion on a pass to Irby, Lefflbine found Gallagher for a 13-yard touchdown and a 24-0 lead after the extra point by Carvalho with 10:29 to go in the third.

Rochester showed a park early in the fourth quarter behind Bronson and Allen, as Allen won a 57-yard foot race with 4:43 gone in the fourth quarter to get the Yellowjackets on the scoreboard trailing 24-6. However, the two-point conversion failed, keeping the Saints ahead by three scores.

St. Lawrence would respond in style with the game-clinching touchdown with 2:50 left in regulation. Zane Fish relieved Lefflbine and rushed 18-yards down to the Rochester 7-yard line, and two plays later, he kept the ball on the option and found the end zone from three yards out for the score. Carvalho's extra point capped the game's scoring at 31-6.

Leondre Simmon had an interception for St. Lawrence, while Dillon Knight turned in an eight tackle performance. Gallagher led all receivers with 80 yards on six catches. Rochester's defense was led by Thomas Marone, who had 12 tackles including 2.0 for a loss.

St. Lawrence will square off with Rensselaer in Troy, NY next Saturday, October 11 in a battle of two teams currently 2-0 in Liberty League play. Kick-off between the Saints and Engineers is scheduled for 1:00pm.
