St. Lawrence University senior captain Kyle Flanagan has been named ECAC Hockey Player of the Week for the second straight week and junior goaltender Matt Weninger earned ECAC Hockey Goaltender of the Week honors after a road sweep of Maine in Orono last weekend.
Additionally, the Saints were selected as the College Hockey News "Team of the Week" following their sweep.
Flanagan had a seven point weekend, assisting on four of five Saint goals in a 5-0 Friday win and scoring twice and assisting on a third in a 5-1 win in game two. The Saint captain leads the nation in goals and points through the first two weekends of the season with five goals and six assists in four games. The Player of the Week award is the fifth for Flanagan in his career.
Weninger recorded his fifth career shutout with 30 saves on Friday and came back with a 36 save effort on Saturday to earn the road sweep. He improved his overall record to 3-1 on the season and has a .952 save percentage to go with a 1.75 goals against average through the first four games of the year. He made 17 of his 66 saves on Maine power plays as the Saints held the Black Bears scoreless in 14 power play chances in the two games. Weninger has earned Goaltender of the Week honors four times in his career and was also twice Rookie of the Week.
The Saints are off to their best road start since 1988-99 at 3-1 and are on a 6-0-1 streak against Hockey East opponents since January of 2010.
SLU will open its home season Nov. 2 when it hosts Alabama-Huntsville in a pair of games before embarking on ECAC play at Brown and Yale on Nov.9-10.
