St. Lawrence University senior men's hockey captain Kyle Flanagan has been named the ECAC Hockey Player of the Week after helping the Saints to a split at nationally ranked Western Michigan University last weekend.
Flanagan had three goals and an assist in the two games as the Saints won game one 4-3 in overtime and dropped a 3-2 decision in game two. The senior center set up the season's first goal on a power play in the first period of the season opener and scored the third Saint goal in the third period, stealing the puck and scoring unassisted. He scored twice, both on the power play, in the 3-2 Saturday loss.
Flanagan's linemates Greg Carey and Chris Martin also scored goals in the weekend series and the Saints' top line combined for five of the six goals and five assists in the two games.
The Saints won their season opener for the first time since 2007 and won a road season opener for the first time since 1998-99.
SLU returns to action Friday and Saturday with another road series, playing Maine of Hockey East in back-to-back games in Orono, ME.
