Lucy Stillman scored one goal and added two assists as the St. Lawrence University field hockey team defeated Nazareth 4-1 in a non-conference game Tuesday evening at North Country Field. Three other members of the Saints' squad scored in the win.
Melissa Grosshans put the Saints on the board as she tipped a shot past Golden Flyers' goalkeeper Kimber Nourse 28 minutes and 31 seconds into regulation. Molly Wood assisted on the play with a pass from the arc.
Nazareth's Emily Prescott tied the game in the 46th minute of play with a wide open shot on Sophie Cardenali's left side.
Two minutes later, Kelsey Pollard gave the Saints a one goal advantage (2-1) off a feed from Stillman. Pollard's goal served as the game winner.
Stillman intercepted a pass just above the arc, tipped to Bailey Sherwin, who then set Stillman up for the goal during the 59th minute. Maggie Wraight tacked on an insurance goal for the Saints about three minutes later for her third goal of the season and the Saints fourth goal.
"We dug deep today," said head coach Fran Grembowicz. "Nazareth came out and really battled throughout the game and we had to fight hard for the win. In the second half we played a much better passing game and had better quality shots on goal."
St. Lawrence goalkeeper Cardenali finished with seven saves, while Nourse made 14 saves for Nazareth.
The Saints outshot the Golden Flyers 26-13 and held an 18-8 shots on goal advantage. The Scarlet and Brown improved to 5-7 on the season, while Nazareth fell to 1-11.
