St. Lawrence University's field hockey team came up with a quick answer to a tying goal by Manhattanville College early in the second half and went on to a 3-2 win over the Valiants to gain a split of their weekend series at the William Smith Invitational.

SLU improves to 3-4 on the season heading into the start of league play at Rochester and William Smith on Friday and Saturday.

The Saints took a 1-0 lead on their first shot on goal of the game as Kara Pelosi passed the ball to sophomore Katie Klein, who was alone in front of the goal and Klein put it past Manhattanville goalie Kristen Halloran at 28:49 of the first half. It was the second goal of the season for Klein.

Manhattanville tied it up 14:51 into the second half following a penalty corner. Bregje Smits set up Kirsten Savage for a shot from the top left of the arch which eluded Saint goalie Kim Haab. The Saints, however, had an almost instant answer to the Valiant goal as Mikaela Thompson scored her second goal of the weekend from Sam Haab off a penalty corner 1:39 later.

Camille Burger scored her first collegiate goal from Pelosi at 63:04 with a blast from the top of the arch and it proved to be the game winner as Morgan Parsons scored on a penalty stroke for Manhattanville with 1:07 to play in regulation to cut the Saint lead to 3-2.

Kim Haab finished with eight saves for the win in goal while Meghan Hughes had two saves in the second half for the Valiants. Manhattanville had an overall 15-9 edge in shots and a 10-5 edge in shots on goal and had 10 penalty corners to seven for the Saints.
