The St. Lawrence University field hockey team came back from an early 2-0 deficit to tie Renssealer with less than 20 minutes to play, but Nessa Costa's first goal of the season gave the Engineers a 3-2 win over the Saints in a Liberty League game on North Country Field on Friday afternoon.

Mikaela DiBello set up the game-winner, finding Costa with a cross from the right side of the field, and Costa redirected the pass inside the left post. While the Saints had several opportunities to tie the game in the closing minutes, their shots were either saved by RPI goalkeeper Rachel Kaufman or were sent just wide.

Megan Jones scored the first goal of the game for the Engineers, taking a pass from Sydney Luke right in front of the Saints' net and sending a backhand shot into the left side in the 10th minute.

Jones assisted on RPI's second goal, inserting to DiBello on a penalty corner. DiBello blasted her shot from the top of the circle into the left side of the net.

Molly Wood got the Saints on the board, intercepting a Rensselaer clearing attempt near the top of the circle and sending a shot through a screen into the right side. She added an assist on the Saints' second goal, sending a shot from almost the same spot, but this time Melissa Grosshans was there to tip it past Kaufman.

RPI outshot the Saints 21-12 and had a 10-6 edge on penalty corners. Sophie Cardenali made eight saves for the Saints, while Kaufman made seven stops for the Engineers, who moved to 2-10, 1-3 Liberty League.

St. Lawrence, now 5-8, 1-3, will face Vassar in Poughkeepsie, New York, at 2 p.m. on Sunday.
