The St. Lawrence University Field Hockey team held SUNY Cortland scoreless for the first 55 minutes of the contest the Saints took a lead with a goal by Maisie Rosenheimer at the 56:32 mark but Cortland came back to post a 2-1 win Wednesday afternoon in a non-league game on North Country Field at Hall-Leet Stadium in Canton.

After Rosenheimer gave the Saints (4-11) the lead, the Red Dragons (12-4) came right back and answered nine seconds later off the ensuing restart with a goal by Jessica Welch to tie the game.

Less than six minutes later, Welch scored her second goal of the game to give the Red Dragons a 2-1 lead and Cortland held on the rest of the game for the narrow victory.

Cortland held advantages in nearly all statistical categories with a 27-8 shots advantage and an 18-3 edge in penalty corners.

Most of the scoring chances came in the second half of play after the teams played a scoreless first 35 minutes.

Early in the second half Gabby Stein had a shot from close range that St. Lawrence goalie Kim Haab kicked away. The save led to a rush down the field and Kara Pelosi capped the run dribbling past two defenders and into the arc before firing a shot but Cortland goalie Kailynne Reinoehl made a diving save on a ball that deflected off her mask to keep the game scoreless.

With nearly 10 minutes elapsed in the second half, Cortland was awarded a penalty stroke and Meghan Coope fired the shot wide of the cage.

In the 54th minute, Cortland had another scoring chance as Jillian Vogl fired a shot that rattled off the goal post and five second later, Anna Branch flipped a shot from five yards out that sailed over the cross bar of the cage.

Rosenheimer scored her goal off a penalty corner with an assist from Caroline Phinney at the 56:32 mark in the game.

Haab had 11 saves in the contest while Reinoehl made four saves for Cortland.

The Saints wrap up the 2015 season with a 5 pm road game at St. John Fisher Saturday.
