Saints field and track athletes will compete in NCAA Championships starting Thursday

Five St. Lawrence University athletes will compete in the 2016 NCAA Division III Outdoor Track and Field Championships at Wartburg College in Waverly, IA, starting Thursday with the Saints represented in two men's events and five women's events.

Senior Nick Crawford will be the first Saint to run in the championship as he competes in the 400 meter hurdle prelims at 4 p.m. on Thursday. He is ranked 14th nationally in the event based on times run during the course of the season and has a season's best of 53.13 seconds. He is making his second straight NCAA appearance after qualifying for the 400 meter championship indoors in March. The 400 hurdle finals are scheduled for 3:15 on Saturday if Crawford advances.

Junior Lisa Grohn will be the first Saint woman to compete and she joins sophomore Megan Kellogg as both will compete in their third NCAA Championship of the year. Grohn will run the 10,000 meters at 6:35 p.m. on Thursday. Grohn ran in the NCAA cross country championships in the fall, earned All America honors with a fourth place finish in the indoor 5000 meters and will run both 10,000 and 5000 meters outdoors. She is ranked 12th nationally at 10,000 meters with a seed time of 35:50.22

Senior Marisa Turner will make her fourth straight NCAA Championship appearance to begin Friday competition as she will compete in the high jump at 2:30 p.m.. All America outdoors a year ago in the event and All America in both the high jump and 400 meters indoors this past season, she ranks fourth nationally on the seed list at 1.71 meters going into the high jump at Wartburg. She will come back later in the day and run in the 400 meter prelims where she has a 55.62 seed time which ranks 11th nationally. The 400 meters prelim will run at 5:00 and the final will be contested at 2:20 p.m. on Saturday.

Kellogg, who has qualified for NCAA Championship competition in cross country and indoor and outdoor track in each of her first two years with the Saint program will join Grohn in the 5000 meters at 4:25 p.m. on Saturday. Kellogg, All America in the 3000 indoors this past March and the 5000 outdoors last May, has the fourth best time in the 5000 nationally at 16:38.29 while Grohn ranks seventh in the same event at 16:44.14. Grohn also qualified for the 1500 meters for this year's outdoor championship, but will limit her competition to the 5,000 and 10,000.

Junior Thomas Caulfield will make his first NCAA outdoor track and field appearance at 4:00 on Saturday, running in the men's 5000. A three-time participant in the NCAA cross country championships, he has the 14th best time nationally with a 14:23.21.
