The top-seeded and tenth-ranked William Smith Herons scored three consecutive goals to top the St. Lawrence University women's soccer team, 3-0, in game one of the Liberty League semifinals on Saturday afternoon in Geneva, New York.

Megan Bartwick scored her eighth goal of the season after capitalizing on a rebound in the 19th minute of play.

Merilyn Hinrichs increased the Herons lead to two, with a long range shot at 57:20.

In the 72nd minute of play, Bartwick scored her second of the game, giving William Smith a 3-0 win.

"It was a tough way to end a season today," said head coach Sinead McSharry. It was a great team effort and so much heart was put into this game and every game to be honest. A lot of that heart came from our senior group who have such a passion for the game and this soccer program. It's not the result we wanted or how we envisioned ending our season, but what's hardest is knowing that this chapter of the book has come to an end with this group. No two seasons are the same and I'm going to miss being out on the field with this team.

They are a very special group. I want to thank our seniors, our team, our athletic department and school as well as my staff for making this one of the most positive experiences to ever be a part of. Thank you!"

The Herons controlled the majority of play, topping the Saints 23-2 in shots, including a 14-1 shots on goal advantage.

Julia Mulhern recorded the Saints lone shot on goal, while goalkeeper Samantha Allen made 11 saves for the Scarlet and Brown. Veronica Romines finished with one save for the Herons.

With today's loss, the Saints fell to 10-3-4 on the season, while William Smith will advance to the conference championships tomorrow and improved to 13-3-0.
