Tapshak Augustine's fifth goal of the season helped propel the St. Lawrence University men's soccer team to a 2-1 win over the Rochester Institute of Technology (RIT) on Saturday afternoon in Rochester. With the win, the Saints improve to 11-3 overall and 4-3 in Liberty League play, while RIT fell to 4-8-3 and 1-5-1.

The teams traded goals in the first six minutes, as Charlton Kelly opened the scoring with Augustine and Brendan McNamee assisting to give St. Lawrence a 1-0 lead in the fourth minute.

But RIT answered with a goal of its own on a breakaway by Ahmed Alrefaei just over two minutes later to even the score.

In the 20th minute, Augustine tapped in a loose ball off a feed from classmate Jethro Dede to put the Saints in front for good, 2-1. It was his second game-winning tally of the season.

RIT nearly capitalized on a miscue in the box by the Saints with just under five minutes to play. The Saints played the ball back to keeper Mike Smith but his clear attempt was blocked a Tigers' forward and rolled towards the open net. The Tigers, however, we offside on the attack.

Smith finished with two saves for the Saints, both in the first half. RIT's Peter Cinibulk made three stops, while the Tigers also recorded a defensive save in the match.

The Saints finished with a 14-9 shot advantage and 6-3 edge in shots on goal. Dede and Augustine led St. Lawrence with two shots on target each.

Prior to this evening's games around the league, the Saints had 12 points and sat in sole possession of third place, behind Hobart and RPI who were tied for first with 13 points, with both teams playing late games on Saturday.

The Saints will return home for their final regular season game on Saturday, Oct. 29 against Clarkson.
