The St. Lawrence University softball team earned a doubleheader split against host RIT on Saturday in Rochester, NY. After falling 7-4 in game one, the Saints outlasted an RIT rally to win game two in eighth inning by the score of 6-5.

St. Lawrence moves to 14-8 with a 1-5 mark in the Liberty League, while RIT is 9-17 overall and 2-4 in the conference.

In the opener, RIT took advantage of four St. Lawrence errors that led to three unearned runs. First-year student Aisha O'Connor later scored a run in the sixth and senior Chelsea Hanno launched a three-run home run in the seventh inning to cut into the deficit, but the Tigers held on for the 7-4 victory.

Junior captain Liz McGinley took the loss on the mound for the Saints as she allowed eight hits, four earned runs and struck out four.

In game two, junior Chelsea Cavellier put St. Lawrence on the board in the first inning when she doubled down the left field line to score Weisbarth and O'Connor. The Saints tacked on a run in the fourth inning when Hanno scored on an RIT throwing error, then added two in the seventh inning when O'Connor and sophomore Khalshia White scored.

Meanwhile, first-year pitcher Kyle Plimpton kept the RIT bats silent through six innings of play as she allowed just one hit, a single in the first inning. The Tigers, however, caught up to her in the seventh when they rallied back from a 5-0 deficit to tie the game and force extra innings.

The Saints took the lead for good in the eighth when sophomore Becky Allen smacked a solo homerun to give her team the eventual 6-5 win. In the bottom of the inning, the Tigers had a chance to win with runners on second and third with no outs, but Plimpton struck out the next three batters to end the game.

Plimpton improved to 8-4 on the season as she allowed eight hits, two walks and struck out 12.

The Saints will take on the University of Rochester tomorrow afternoon in Rochester, NY.
