CANTON--The St. Lawrence University volleyball team defeated SUNY Potsdam 3-1 in a non-conference game Tuesday evening in Potsdam. Though the Saints (7-2) dropped the first set 22-25, they were able to rally to top the Bears in the next three sets (25-22, 25-20, 25-19).
In the third, the Saints and the Bears battled back and forth until the Saints went on an 8-2 run to take the set.
SUNY Potsdam broke SLU's momentum in the fourth with a 7-1 run to begin the set. The Saints battled back to take a 12-9 advantage before the Bears narrowed the gap to 17-16. The Scarlet and Brown then went on an 8-3 run to end the fourth and claim the victory.
Leading the Saints were Junior Nyasha Miller and senior Abby Rose. Miller recorded 12 kills and 17 digs, while Rose contributed 34 assists and 12 digs. Junior Liz Grogan added 11 kills and senior Jordan Buzza recorded nine kills and 14 digs for the Saints.
The Saints will head to Plattsburgh State this Friday, September 17th where they will battle SUNY-Old Westbury and Baruch College on the first day of the Plattsburgh Classic. The matches are scheduled to start at 4:00pm and 8:00pm, respectively.
