Saints diver Edkins advances to NCAA meet, Blake is an alternate

First-year diver Matthew Edkins earned automatic qualification for the NCAA Division III National Championship meet following his performance in the regional event this weekend. Junior Alex Blake will serve as an alternate in the three meter event.

This is the first time the Saints have sent a diver to the national meeting in more than two decades, as the Saints had not had a diver compete at regionals since 1986 prior to Blake and James Wilczewski doing so in 2014.

Blake led the duo in the 3M on Saturday afternoon at Wellesley with a sixth-place finish with 410.30 points, edging Union's Matt Mintz (405.55). Edkins finished the regional event with 373.25 points in 12th.

The National Championship will be at the Greensboro Aquatic Center in Greensboro, North Carolina in mid-March.
