St. Lawrence University junior Cristina Deschaine and sophomore Rebecca Briggs earned All-Tournament Team honors at the 2014 Oswego Invitational, as the Saints volleyball team finished 3-1 after splitting with Hamilton (L, 3-1) and Alfred (W, 3-1).

St. Lawrence saw its six-game win streak snapped by Hamilton, falling 25-19, 25-18, 18-25, 25-22 in the opening match on Saturday. However, the team rebounded with a come-from-behind 22-25, 25-17, 25-10, 25-17 victory over the Saxons to earn a share of the tournament title with Oswego and Hamilton.

"The Hamilton match was a good test for us, but we struggled in sets one and two with starting slow," said St. Lawrence head coach Shelly Roiger. "We played very well in the third but another slow start in the fourth cost us the match."

The Continentals were able to build sizable leads in the first and second sets before St. Lawrence rattled off a 25-18 win in the third. Hamilton pulled away early again in the fourth, and though the Saints made a charge to get within two, Hamilton was able to hang on for the four-set win.

Briggs led the Scarlet and Brown with 10 kills while Deschaine added nine and four block assists. Katarina Marczeski had a team-high 17 assists and three digs.

The Saints continued to struggle in the second match early as Alfred took a 1-0 lead behind a 25-22 win in the opener. However, the Saints would take the second set before dominating the third 25-10 to take a 2-1 advantage. St. Lawrence put away the win to earn a share of the tournament title 25-17 in the fourth to improve to 8-4 on the year.

Briggs (13 kills) and Deschaine (10 kills) were joined in the attack by Amanda Brooks, who added 10 kills as well. Katie Kull's 21 assists led the team, while a solid defensive effort was aided by Mariah Dignan's 10 digs and the team's 23 block assists.

St. Lawrence will open its 2014 Liberty League season next weekend, September 19 and 20, with matches against Vassar, RIT, Bard and nationally-ranked No. 17 Clarkson in Annandale-on-Hudson and Poughkeepsie, NY.
