The St. Lawrence University women's basketball team cruised past Rensselaer, in a 76-57 win at Burkman Gymnasium Friday night in Canton, N.Y.
Junior Kaelyn Kohlasch led the team with 17 points, going 3-for-5 from the 3-point arc. She was followed closely by sophomore Meghan Hynes who tallied 15 points and snagged five rebounds and junior Jenny Scudder who scored 13 points and shot 50% from behind the arc. Shayna Davner also contributed 12 points.
The Saints got off to a slow start in the 1st quarter and trailed the Engineers 19-15, but regained strength quickly as they battled back to hold a 32-28 lead heading into the locker room at halftime. The Saints continued to build momentum in the third quarter and scored a combined total of 37 points between the second and third quarters.
The Saints added another 24 points in the fourth quarter, with 15 of the 24 in the final three minutes to put the game away.
Leading the way for the Engineers was sophomore Sam Krumbhaar who contributed 18 points and six rebounds. Sophomore Elizabeth Eckhardt added 12 points.
The Saints improved to 7-10 overall and 4-5 in Liberty League play, just one game out of fourth place in the conference. RPI fell to 6-13, 1-9.
The Saints will face Union on Saturday at 2 p.m.
