Saints cross country Kellogg Individual Champion, team 2nd in Liberty League

St. Lawrence University sophomore Megan Kellogg won her seventh straight race and the Liberty League individual championship on the Ronald C. Hoffmann Cross Country Course at SLU on Saturday, but Rensselaer had five runners in the top 12 and snapped a 13-year Saint team title win streak.

RPI won the meet with 34 points while the Saints were second with 39 and RIT third with 50. All three teams are nationally ranked and will be among the contenders for an NCAA team berth at the NCAA Regional hosted by Geneseo on Nov. 14. Vassar was fourth with 120 points in the eight team field with Clarkson fifth with 140, Union sixth with 187 and Bard seventh with 217. William Smith did not field a full team for the meet.

Kellogg ran the Saint streak of individual champions in the Liberty League race to 13 as she ran at the front of the field from the start and took over from early leader Jaime Lord of RPI as the race came down toward the

finish. Kellogg ran 21:44.0, the third best time in course history and the top time for a Saint athlete. Lord finished second in 21:56.99 while Saint junior Lisa Grohn was third, running 22:17.21.

Ashley Leta was the third Saint scorer, eighth overall in 22:49.65 and Elina Breton was the top rookie finisher in the race, 11th in 23:22.46. RPI seniors Alexa Sakorafos and Loki Rasmussen finished 12th and 13th to give the Engineers six runners in before the fifth Saint finisher, Caroline Driscoll, who was 16th in 23:41.57.

Anna Breton finished 17th in 23:43.88 while Gaelyn Bronson was 25th in 24:01.50, Carrie Pomainville 34th in 24:23.18, Marla Davidson 35th in 24:25.70, Sarah Moon 42nd in 24:45.07, Lindsay Howe 56th in 25:14.68, Cassidy Scott 59th in 25:21.16, Madeline Funk 60th in 25:23.69, Alexis Bruno was 62nd in 25:4.57, Courtney Mullen 64th in 25:31.98, Emma Putre 66th in 25:37.07, Abigail Bourcy 69th in 25:44.87, Hannah Fake 70th in 25:48.31, Miabelle Salzano was 84th in 26:34.33, Margaret MacDonald 92nd in 27:09.61 Rachel Waldrop 97th in 27:35.37, Alexis Haley 99th in 27:38.12, Bridget Benz 100th in 27:44.91, and Laurence Leinders 104th in 28:44.22.
