The St. Lawrence University men's tennis team traveled to Saratoga Springs, NY on Friday to compete in the 2010 USTA/ITA Regional Championships hosted by Skidmore College.
Several athletes made it to the second round of play, but no one was able to advance further in the championship.
In doubles action, seniors Will Cook and Ren Gates defeated Matt Asher and Even Creer of RPI 9-7, before falling to Spencer Cheng and Jimmy Sherpa of Skidmore in the second round 8-2.
The duo of Michael Hayden and Tony Wilkey defeated Andres Rivera and Michael Capozzi of Manhattanville 8-5. They would eventually be taken down by Jeremy Eckardt and TJ Riley of The College of New Jersey 8-5 in the round two.
In singles play, Cook took on Yoni Zuckerman of Rochester, winning 7-5, 6-4. He would eventually be defeated by a seeded opponent from Skidmore 6-2, 6-2.
Hayden handily defeated Rivera (Manhattanville) 6-2, 6-0. He then split sets with seeded Dan Freeman of Vassar before falling in the tie-breaker set, 6-4, 4-6, (10-7).
Wilkey defeated Jeremy Mancus of Nazareth 6-4, 6-3 before falling to seeded Steven Fernandez of TCNJ 6-2, 6-4.
The men's tennis team is finished with its fall season. They will be back in action in the spring.
