The St. Lawrence University men's and women's swimming and diving teams participated in the first day of competition at the 2011 Liberty League Championships, hosted by Rensselaer in Troy, NY.

The women's team posted 137 points and is currently sitting in fourth place heading into Saturday morning's second session. Rochester claimed four of the five events on Friday and is currently in first with 265 points. RPI currently has 148 points in second, while Union has 140 in third.

Junior Casey Abribat led the Saints, earning a third place finish in the 200 IM (2:14.32) and swimming on the third place 400-yard relay team. First-year student Samantha Moffitt came in fourth in the 200 IM (2:14.32) and fifth in the 50-yard free (25.14). Senior Brynn Hagen was seventh (2:18.89) in the 200 IM.

The 400-yard relay team of Abribat, Moffitt, and sophomores Elizabeth Canne and Katharina Weidhausser posted a time of 4:05.50 for a third place finish.

The men's team, which tallied 68 points in the opening session and is tied for seventh with Skidmore, was led by senior Russ Newton's sixth place finish in the 500-yard free (4:53.94).

The championships continue on Saturday morning with the second session beginning at 9am. Action continues with the third and final session that evening, beginning at 4pm.
