Saints Carpenter, Lustgarten have career-best showings at UVM Carnival

St. Lawrence University senior Caroline Carpenter and sophomore Eric Lustgarten posted new career-best finishes for the Saints' Nordic ski team on Saturday at the 2012 UVM Carnival in Stowe, VT. Carpenter was 11th overall in the women's 5k Classic, while Lustgarten was 15th in the men's 10k race.

Carpenter continued to lead the St. Lawrence women's team for the fifth consecutive race with a time of 16:48.2. Classmate Leah Hart was 36th overall, while first-year student Kate Mulcahy capped the trio's scoring at 52.0 points in 45th place. Their team total was good for seventh place overall.

Rookie Emma Duffany (58th), sophomore Bridget Shea-Gander (67th) and junior Kelsey Nichols (DNF) also competed in the women's 5k for the Saints.

Meanwhile, Lustgarten remained a consistent scorer for the Scarlet and Brown in 15th position with a time of 29:56.3. Joining the Burlington, VT native in the team scoring on Saturday were rookies Austin Meng (27th) and Will Frielinghaus (38th), putting the team in sixth place with 65.0 points.

Seniors Teo Jackson (44th) and Adam Terko (48th) and first-year Evan Turner (54th) rounded out the Saints' race line-up.

Dartmouth College swept the team titles in the classic races at the UVM Carnival, while Sophie Caldwell won the individual women's crown for the Big Green. However, Patrick Johnston of Middlebury earned the men's individual victory.

The St. Lawrence Nordic teams will compete on the final day of the UVM Carnival tomorrow, Sunday, February 5 in the 10k Freestyle.
