The brothers Carey accounted for the scoring and Matt Weninger made some key saves among a 20-save night as the St. Lawrence men's hockey team bounced back from a disappointing night against Dartmouth on Friday with a well-played 2-2 tie against Harvard on Saturday

Freshman Matt Carey scored his 17th goal of the season 1:19 into the third period on a four-on-three power play to tie the game at 2-2 and it stayed that way the rest of the way as the Saints and Crimson played to the draw. SLU dominated play, outshooting Harvard 41-22, but goalie Steve Michalek came through with a number of big saves among his 39 in the game to salvage the point for the Crimson.

The Saints and Harvard, who went into the game in a tie for ninth in the ECAC standings, stayed there, but the Saints have the tiebreaker based on taking three out of four points in the season series with the Crimson. Harvard is 9-13-4 overall and 5-9-4 in league play while the Saints are 11-15-4 overall and also 5-9-4 in conference play.

Neither team scored in a first period which saw the Saints get three power plays, but Harvard's penalty kill limited the Saints to just two shots in those three chances.

The Crimson took the lead on a power play of its own when the Saints were called for two penalties on the same play. Freshman defenseman Victor Newell skated into the slot and buried his second of the year at 8:08 of the period to give Harvard a 1-0 lead.

The Saints came back to tie it at 14:39 on a power play as senior wing Greg Carey snapped a nine-game goal scoring drought with his 15th of the season on a shot along the ice which eluded Michalek. The dynamic defensive scoring duo of freshman Gavin Bayreuther and senior Justin Baker assisted on the play and are averaging nearly a point per game.

The period was called with 1:04 to play due to a problem with the glass at one end of the rink, and when it resumed after the intermission, Harvard took a 2-1 lead on Brian Hart's fourth goal of the season at 19:21, as Hart put a rebound back past Weninger.

The Saints tied it on Matt Carey's power play one-timer from his brother Greg with Baker also assisting 1:19 into the third period and while the Saints dominated the third period and overtime, outshooting Harvard 22-6 including 6-1 in the overtime, neither team could break the tie.

Weninger finished with 20 saves for the Saints while Michalek made 39 for the Crimson.
