Saints bounce back with Game 2 baseball win, split at Vassar

St. Lawrence University's baseball team bounced back from a 7-2 loss in game one to gain a butsplit in a Liberty League doubleheader at Vassar Monday, winning game two 11-5.

The Saints, 12-8, 7-5 are scheduled to play Plattsburgh at 4 p.m. on Wednesday and a league set at Rensselaer on Saturday and Sunday.

Vassar took a 3-0 lead through five in game one against Saint starter Chris Kellogg, but the Saints rallied to cut it to 3-2 on a single by Bryan Palermo, an error on a ball by Mark Syron, a sacrifice fly by Khifer O'Connor and Jeff Kott's run-scoring single.

The Brewers scored four in the bottom of the sixth to put the game away, highlighted by Alex English's two run single.

SLU bounced back to gain the split in the second game, scoring five in both the fifth and the sixth innings. Consecutive two-out singles by Matt DeLuca, Ethan Braddock, Palermo, Syron, Carter Franz and O'Connor plated the runs in the fifth and Franz hit a two-run double in the sixth. Kott singled and Paul Piatelli doubled to add a run in the seventh.

Michael Dell'Olio earned the win in relief of Ben Jenkins with Piatelli adding an inning of scoreless relief.
