On the heels of strong debut performances at the UNYSCSA Championship meet last weekend, first-year divers Alex Blake and James Wilczewski have qualified for the NCAA Diving Regional Championships which will be held February 28 and March 1 on the RPI campus in Troy, N.Y.
Approximately 25 student-athletes from the Northeast/North region will compete in both the one and three meter dives, with the top 6-8 individuals qualifying for the NCAA Championships in Indianapolis, Ind. beginning March 19. Wilczewski qualified on both in both events, while Blake qualified on the one meter; although he will compete in the three-meter as well this weekend.
Blake and Wilczewski highlighted the UNYSCSA Championship for the Saints, posting the top finishes for the team throughout the four-day meet.
On the three-meter board on day one, Wilczewski improved his preliminary scoring by more than 30 points to finish second in the finals and find his way onto the podium with a score of 516.95. Blake also placed in the finals of the three-meter, finishing 7th with a finals score of 384.90.
Friday, on the one meter, it was Blake who edged Wilczewski as the pair finished fifth and sixth, respectively. Blake posted a final score of 430.90 compared to Wilczewski's 419.85.
