Saint's Biswal second in Penn relays triple jump

St. Lawrence University junior Divya Biswal finished second in the college women's Eastern triple jump competition at the Penn Relays on Friday, the second top-ten finish for a Saint athlete at the prestigious event.

Biswal, who has the top jump of the year among Division III competitors nationally at 12.12 meters, jumped 12.04 meters (39-6) in Philadelphia on Friday. She trailed only Manhattan's Bianca Marten in the 31-athlete field. Marten won the event at 12.21 meters.

Senior Amy Cymerman finished ninth in the 10,000 meters at the Penn Relays in Philadelphia on Thursday night, running the second fastest time in the country among Division III athletes thus far this season and shattering the SLU record in the event.

Cymerman ran 34:47.53 for the top ten finish in a 36 runner field. She trimmed 25 seconds off Wendy Pavlus' record which was set in 2011. Pavlus was the last Saint to record a top ten finish at the Penn Relays with an eighth in the 10K in 2011. Classmate Ariel Beccia ran 36:10.75 and finished 27th. Leigha Anderson on Penn State won the race in 33:53.32. Eight Division III runners were in the field.

In other events on Thursday, Carly Stine ran 1:03.53 in the 400 hurdles, her second fastest time this season and one of the top 20 times in Division III nationally. Her best time, 1:03.48 run at Bucknell, ranks 17th nationally. She was third among Division III competitors in the 54-athlete field.

Lisa Grohn finished 17th in the 5000 meters, running 17:22.40, second among Division III runners in a 30 runner field.

The Saint 4x100 relay ran 50.31 and were sixth among 14 Division III teams in a 105 team field. The Saint team included Chinelo Asanya, Divya Biswal , Ketura Mason and Hannah Kinsey.

The lone Saint field event competitor in the Penn Relays Thursday was Marisa Turner and she finished 18th in the Eastern Collegiate high jump competition clearing 1.60 meters (5-3). She was second among three Division III athletes in the 28-athlete competition.

The Saint 4x400 relay team of Stine, Turner, Mason and Kinsey ran 4:00.64, 70th of 87 teams.
