St. Lawrence baseball outscored Bard a combined 19-5 in a doubleheader sweep on Saturday afternoon in Annandale-on-Hudson, N.Y. in the teams' Liberty League openers. Now 6-1 on the year and 2-0 in conference games, the Saints won the first game 8-3 and then scored 10 runs in the first four innings of game two, including a four-run second, en route to an 11-3 win to complete the sweep.

The Saints carried a 3-2 lead into the top of the sixth inning in game one after scoring an unearned run in the first inning and adding two more runs – one earned, one unearned – in the third. The Raptors answered with two runs of their own in the bottom half of the third inning on a two RBI single by Alec Montecalvo.

Adam Reichel led off the sixth with a walk before stealing second to more into scoring position with Kyle Liszewski at the plate. A single by the Clarence, N.Y. native put runners on second and third for senior Chris Fernandez, who then laced a two RBI double to left center. After Mic Regan was hit by a pitch, senior Mark Syron picked up two RBI of his own with a single to center to push the St. Lawrence lead to 7-2.

Liszewski drove in the Saints final run in the top of the seventh with an RBI single to short, scoring Michael LeFevre.

Sam Downes pitched a complete game (7 inns.) for St. Lawrence in game one, allowing just four hits and two earned runs while striking out two.

The Saints outhit the Raptors 9-4; led by Liszewski's three-hit performance and stole six bases.

In game two, it was Alex Dermody who picked up the win on the mound for the Scarlet and Brown. He gave up three hits and two earned runs in six innings pitched. He was relieved by Will Fellows, who allowed two hits in two innings of work, and Matt Phelan, who pitched the ninth.

Senior Mark Syron tripled to left center with two outs in the top of the first inning and Devin Robson followed with a walk before Kyle MacDonald drove them both in with a double to right center to give St. Lawrence a 2-0 lead.

In the second, Chris Fernandez picked up an RBI on a fielder's choice, Syron plated a pair of runs with a single and MacDonald earned his third RBI of the day with a single of his own to make it 6-0 before the Raptors came to the plate in the bottom half of the inning to score two of their own.

St. Lawrence responded with one in the third and three in the fourth: Regan scored on a balk, Robson grounded out to plate Syron and a double by LeFevre drove in MacDonald. The visitor's final run came in the sixth inning.

Both Syron and MacDonald finished with three hits in game two, while MacDonald led the team with four RBI.

The Saints and Raptors square off again on Sunday, March 22 for another Liberty League doubleheader with the first game scheduled for 12:00 p.m. on Bard's Honey Field.
