Saints baseball players Franz, O'Connor, Riley earn 1st Team All Liberty League

Six members of St. Lawrence University's 2013 baseball team were named to the Liberty League All Star team as selected by the league's coaches on Wednesday.

Senior Carter Franz and juniors Joe Riley and Khifer O'Connor were first team selections for the Saints, juniors Bryan Palermo and Kevin Prindle earned second team honors and senior Jeff Kott was an honorable mention selection.

Franz, a senior center fielder is a three-time all star and two-time first team selection. He takes a .380 batting average with 31 runs scored, 33 driven in and 12 doubles, three triples and seven honors into Thursday's start of Liberty League tournament play against RPI at Siena College.

Third baseman O'Connor also earned his third straight Liberty League all star nod and second straight first team selection after leading the Saints in hitting in the regular season with a .394 average, scoring 26 runs and driving in 29. He has 12 doubles, a homer and has struck out just seven times in 127 at bats.

Riley has been the ace of the Saint staff as a junior to earn all league honors for the first time. He is 7-1 on the season with a 1.39 earned run average and 37 strikeouts in 58.1 innings. He has five complete games and three shutouts with opponents hitting .231 against him. His lone loss was a 2-1 decision at RPI.

Palermo earned All Liberty League honors for the third straight year with his second team selection. The Saint second baseman hit .268 in the regular season with 29 runs scored and five driven in and struck out just six times in 123 at bats. He was 10 for 11 in steals and was in on 20 double plays in the field for the Saints.

Prindle, in his first year with the Saints after transferring from Hamilton, gained his first all league honors as a utility player. He went 2-4 with a 4.38 ERA in seven appearances as a pitcher with one shutout and hit .343 in 15 games as a designated hitter or outfielder with six runs driven in.

Kott hit .310 with 25 runs driven in and nine doubles in his senior season and had a .997 fielding percentage and was part of 37 double plays. He earned a spot on the league all star team for the second straight year.
