Saints baseball bounces back for split with Elms

Lawrence University's baseball team bounced back from a 4-0 shutout in game one of a doubleheader to gain a split on Sunday, beating Elms College 18-2 to improve to 2-1 on its southern trip.

Elms' Curtis Lebeau shut out the Saints on four hits over seven innings in game one as Elms scored two in the third and two in the fourth off Saint starter Chris Kellogg for the win. Bryan Palermo doubled and singled for two of the four Saint hits.

SLU scored in six straight innings in the nightcap for the 18-2 win in the nightcap. Freshman Alex Dermody earned his first collegiate win giving up two runs on four hits and striking out five in five innings. Ben Jenkins and Dan Heddon each pitched an inning of scoreless relief.

Chris Fernandez had a double and triple and three rbi in game two and John Ainsley hit a three run triple. The Saints broke open a 2-1 game with four in the second and had a four-run fifth highlighted by a two-run single from Zane Fish.
