St. Lawrence University junior Joe Smith was named Liberty League Runner of the Year, Sidi Abdoulaye was the Rookie of the Year and Saint coach John Newman was selected as the Coach of the Year as the Liberty League announced its 2015 Cross Country awards.
Smith earned All America honors with a 10th place finish in the NCAA Championships and was the Liberty League individual champion. A consistent top three runner for the Saints throughout his junior season he earned Liberty League Runner of the Week honors twice in the course of the season.
A seven-time winner of the league's Rookie of the Week honors, Abdoulaye was the top freshman finisher in the majority of his meets in his first collegiate season. He was third and the top freshman in the Liberty League Championship and 10th overall and the top rookie in the NCAA Atlantic Regional.
Newman, who led his team to its 21st straight league title and to its eighth straight NCAA team bid, was named league coach of the year for the eighth straight time.
Smith, Abdoulaye, Thomas Caulfield, Wesley Kirui and Spencer Patterson were named first-team All Liberty League by virtue of top seven finishes in the league championship meet while Ben Fishbein was a second team all league choice.
