Middlebury College junior midfielder Catherine Fowler scored two goals as the nationally third-ranked Panthers cruised to a 4-0 win over St. Lawrence University in a NCAA Division III field hockey game which started in Middlebury on Wednesday and ended in Canton on Sunday.

The game was suspended by weather 4:27 into play at Middlebury Wednesday evening and the Panthers agreed to come to Canton to complete the game Sunday. Middlebury improved to 3-0 in a dominating performance, outshooting the Saints 33-2 and not allowing SLU to put a shot on goal.

Freshman midfielder Alex Kuzma opened the scoring with her first collegiate goal 18:44 into the first half on Sunday, scoring in a scramble after the Panthers' eighth penalty corner of the game. It stayed 1-0 through halftime as Saint senior goalie Nicole Matos turned in yet another outstanding performance, making 14 of her total of 18 saves in the first half.

Sophomore Bridget Instrum made it a 2-0 game 1:59 into the second half as she sent it to the far post after working it free in a tie-up with a Saint defender on the goal line. Matos came out to try to break the play up, but Instrum worked it loose just prior to the goalie's arrival and scored her first of the season.

Fowler, whose father was a All America lacrosse goalie and the national Division III Goaltender of the Year as a St. Lawrence senior, finished it off with two shots off penalty corners, scoring her fourth and fifth of the season. She took a pass from Katherine Theiss and rifled a shot to the left side of the cage 4:54 into the second half and completed the scoring when she took the insertion pass from Alyssa DiMaio on a penalty corner and flipped a high lob which looped into the goal over Matos' reach at the 52:50 mark.

Middlebury had 20 penalty corners to none for the Saints, scoring on three of them. Emily Knapp played the first 4:27 in goal in Middlebury on Wednesday and junior Cassie Coash completed the game in Canton to earn the win. Neither Middlebury goalie made a save.

St. Lawrence, now 1-4, returns to action at William Smith Sept. 21 and 22 with games against Lebanon Valley and Manhattanville while the 3-0 Panthers play at Bowdoin on Sept. 21.
