Canton, NY – Khalil Bratton (Queens, NY) and Sam Annorh (Queens, NY) scored 17 points each but the men's basketball team dropped its first contest in the last eight games falling 75-70 to The Sage Colleges on Wednesday evening in the Roos House.

Bratton added 11 rebounds for his fourth double-double of the season and shot 7-for-10 from the field in the contest. Annorh posted a team high four assists, while Kam Peterkin (Harlem, NY) finished with eight points. Scott Bartenstein (Potsdam, NY) and Vonallen Pickett (Brooklyn, NY) each recorded seven points off the bench.

Kai Deans paced the Gators (9-3) with 19 points and nine rebounds, while Melvin Ford added a double-double on 12 points and 14 boards. Andre Robinson also produced double figure points finishing with 12.

The Roos (8-3) got out to a quick start leading 6-0 after 82 seconds of play culminating on a fastbreak slam dunk from Romario Fletcher (Queens, NY). Sage clawed back to take a six point lead with 2:06 remaining in the opening half after a dunk of their own on an offensive rebound from Jorrdan McCray. The hosts cut the lead to just one, trailing 36-35 at intermission.

SUNY Canton took its first lead of the second half five minutes in when Fletcher found Bratton for an open three to put the Roos in front 42-40. The Gators responded with a 9-0 run over the next two minutes to open up a seven point lead with 13 minutes remaining.

Sage would retain the lead the remainder of the game, although SUNY Canton tied it once more at 64-64 with 2:04 remaining after Pickett showed tremendous hustle collecting his own miss and converting on the putback.

From there the Gators opened up a four point lead but the Roos cut the lead to two with 16 seconds remaining after a Bratton lay-up in transition. Troy Nwanna hit a pair of free throws with 13 seconds left to extend the lead to four once again. Bratton was fouled on a drive and made his first free throw with nine seconds to play. He missed the second and Fletcher hauled down the offensive rebound in a one possession game but was whistled for a traveling violation.

The Gators continued their impressive free throw shooting in the closing minutes as Travis Gill hit both to close out the 75-70 victory. Overall, the Gators went 7-for-8 from the charity stripe in the final 30 seconds.

Sage held a 50-38 edge in rebound which led to them outscoring the Roos 19-8 in second chance points. SUNY Canton had the upper hand in bench points (28-17), points in the paint (42-34) and fast break points (26-12).

The men's basketball team hosts Davis College on Saturday at 4:00 p.m. in the Roos House.
