The St. Lawrence University women's hockey team snapped a four-game losing skid on Saturday in Hanover, NH, as the Saints used two third period goals to pull away from Dartmouth College, 4-2. Sophomore Kelly Sabatine had two goals including the game-winner, while graduate student Maxie Weisz matched a season-high 34 saves to anchor the team defensively.

The win was the first for the Scarlet and Brown in 2011, and moved to the team to 10-11-2 (5-6-0). Meanwhile, the Big Green lost for the third time in four games, falling to 9-8-0 (6-6-0).

"Maxie had another great night in net for us, and we were able to get an important two points in the conference standings." said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells. "Dartmouth plays a very similar style to us, so it was a very entertaining game from a fan's perspective."

St. Lawrence and Dartmouth exchanged goals in both the first and second, setting up a crucial third period that would decide the contest. Junior Vanessa Emond got the Saints on the board up 1-0 at 11:37 of the first, with assists going to Sabatine and senior assistant captain Karell Emard. However, the Big Green answered with the tying goal from Kelly Foley with only 58 seconds remaining in the period to draw the ECAC Hockey rivals even, 1-1, at intermission.

Sabatine would give St. Lawrence its lead back at 2-1 at 7:12 of the second period. The Hamilton, ON native scored her first goal of the game on Lindsay Holdcroft, with assists going to Emard and rookie Dayle Wilkinson.

Dartmouth would waste little time in answering, though, as the Big Green pulled even only 4:10 later. Erica Dobos took a pass from Katie Horner and beat Weisz to level the scoring at 2-2 heading to the final stanza. Moira Scanlon also assisted on the home team's second goal.

The Saints would earn the victory in the third period, as the team outshot their opponents by a sound 14-8 margin and once again got solid goaltending from Weisz. Sabatine would score the eventual game-winning goal at 7:10 on the power play, with assists going to classmates Brooke Fernandez and Kayla Sullivan. The tally was Sabatine's 11th of the year.

With the game's outcome still in doubt, senior assistant captain Kirsten Roach would put it away for the Scarlet and Brown with her first goal of the season at 12:53. Junior Alley Bero earned an assist on the key insurance goal.

Though both goalies finished with 34 saves, St. Lawrence won the special teams battle, as the team finished with a 1-for-2 mark on the power play and did not take a penalty the entire game. The visitors also closed with a narrow 38-36 advantage in shots on goal.

The Saints will host Brown and Yale for a pair of conference contests next weekend, Friday and Saturday, January 21 and 22, at Appleton Arena. The puck will drop on St. Lawrence and Brown at 7:00pm on Friday night.
