St. Lawrence University junior forward Kelly Sabatine's 100th collegiate point came 22 seconds into overtime on Friday, as the Hamilton, ON native's second goal of the game lifted the nationally-ranked No. 10 women's hockey team to a 4-3 victory against Dartmouth College in game one of a best-of-three ECAC Hockey quarterfinal series in Hanover, NH.

The win moves the Saints to 21-9-4 on the year, with Sabatine becoming the 19th player in University history and third in two weeks to join the 100-point club. Meanwhile, the Big Green fall to 18-9-2 and will need a win on Saturday to keep their season alive.

"That was certainly an exciting game between two evenly-matched teams that could've gone either way," said St. Lawrence head coach Chris Wells. "We have a very resilient group and kept our composure throughout the game. We know we're going to get Dartmouth's best game tomorrow and will need to be prepared to play."

Dartmouth owned the majority of scoring chances in the first period, outshooting the Saints 9-2. The Big Green hit a cross bar and had numerous bids go just wide, while St. Lawrence goalie Carmen MacDonald did well to keep her team in the game with several key saves.

After St. Lawrence was able to kill off three Big Green power plays, the home team finally cashed in at 15:40 to take a 1-0 lead, as Karlee Odland deflected a shot from Reagan Fischer past MacDonald for her fourth goal of the season and the lone goal of the period.

The Saints would need only 4:08 into the second period to tie the game, as Emard fired a shot from along the right boards that went off a Dartmouth defender's stick and over Holdcroft's glove. Sophomore Mel Desrocher assisted on the tying goal.

Fernandez would help put the visitors on top for the first time at 11:37 on the power play, as her blast from the point got through traffic but hit Sabatine en route to the net. Sabatine's 18th of the season was also assisted by Alley Bero. However, Camille Dumais would score a breakaway goal after an unfortunate hop over a St. Lawrence stick to send the game to the third period knotted at 2-2.

The third period was a wild ride for both teams, with St. Lawrence again taking the lead at 3-2 at 10:47 of the stanza. Following an overturned Saint goal, senior Vanessa Emond send a beautiful centering pass to a wide open Bero in the slot, and the Akwesasne, NY native lifted a shot under the cross bar for her fourth of the season. The Big Green would need only 20 seconds to tie the score again at 3-3, as Dumais' wrist shot snuck past MacDonald's glove at 10:47.

St. Lawrence appeared to score what would have been the game-winner at 18:04 on a delayed Dartmouth penalty, but were instead called for too many players on the ice with MacDonald on the bench, sending the game to the extra session.

The Scarlet and Brown controlled the opening faceoff of overtime and got the puck into the Big Green zone. Rookie Amanda Boulier sent an outlet pass to sophomore Rylee Smith, who chipped a pass into the slot for Sabatine. The Saints' leading scorer did the rest, blitzing a slap shot five-hole to allow her team to storm the ice to celebrate the 4-3 victory.

Dartmouth closed with a 25-20 advantage in shots on goal, but lost the special teams battle, going 0-for-4 on the power play to St. Lawrence's 1-for-3 mark. MacDonald made 22 stops to earn her first collegiate post-season win, while Holdcroft suffered the loss having made 16 saves.

St. Lawrence can advance to the ECAC Hockey semifinals with another win tomorrow, Saturday, February 25 against the Big Green. The puck is scheduled to drop on game two at 2:00pm.
