Rennselaer scored two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to snap a 2-2 tie in game one for a 4-2 win and scored nine times in the bottom of the fourth for a 18-5 game win game two for a Liberty League sweep of St. Lawrence in the league openers for both teams in Troy on Saturday.

RPI improves to 8-4 overall and 2-0 in league play while the Saints are 2-8 and 0-2 going into a Sunday doubleheader, also in Troy.

Senior Chris Cook was the tough-luck loser in game one in a meeting between two of the league's top pitchers.  Cook allowed five hits, two earned runs and struck out six, but RPI's Mike Cieszeko struck out 13 and allowed just four hits in seven innings.

RPI scored two in the first on singles by Johnny Rio and Art Levenson, while the Saints came back with two in the third when Ethan Braddock led off with a single and Paul Piatelli followed with a homer to right.

RPI won it with two unearned runs in the bottom of the sixth, scoring twice with a two-out error.

St. Lawrence was able to get on the board first in game two, with\\ help from freshman Khifer O'Connor's two-out, two-run homer in the top of the first, but RPI responded in their own half of the frame. The Engineers sent 11 batters to the plate and tallied seven runs to jump out to an early 7-2 lead. The inning was highlighted by a three-run triple from Kyle LaVigne.

The Saints tacked on two more runs before the Engineers blew the game open in the fourth inning, scoring nine runs for a 16-4 lead. Levenson drove in the first three runs of the frame with a homer to right field, adding an RBI single later in the inning.

Mike Campisi went seven for the win for the Engineers while Pat Considine took the loss for the Saints.
