A strong singles showing by RPI doomed the St. Lawrence men's tennis team on Saturday, as they fell 8-1 to the Engineers who entered the match ranked No. 16 in the Northeast region and No. 30 in the nation.
The lone win for the Saints came in third doubles, with Tom Luchars and John Megas teaming up for an 8-2 win over Sherman Uyeno and Graham Harris.
In singles, both Will Kauppila and Kevin Frommer took the first sets from their RPI opponents in the fifth and sixth spots, respectively, but both we edged in the second set 7-6 and eventually fell 10-4 in a super tiebreak.
The Saints (6-4, 0-1) will face another tough opponent in No. 26 Skidmore on Sunday at the Saratoga Regional YMCA.
