St. Lawrence University's field hockey team battled Rensselaer in a scoreless tie for 50 minutes in Saturday's Liberty League field hockey game at RPI, but the Engineers finally broke the scoring ice and went on to score three times in 8:53 for a 3-0 win over the Saints.

SLU, now 2-6 overall and 0-2 in league play will host perennial power Middlebury in a 6:30 p.m. game at Hall-Leet Stadium on Tuesday and will be out to snap a four-game skid.

Rensselaer outshot the Saints 22-4 overall and 12-3 on goal with first year Bailey Sherwin getting two of the three Saint shots on goal. The Saint penalty corner defense had a busy day as RPI was awarded 21 penalty corners to one for the Saints. The Engineers scored their first goal on a penalty corner, but the Saints stopped the rest.

Megan Jones opened the scoring after a penalty corner at 50:22 as Colleen Fowler sent a pass across the goal mouth and Jones scored her seventh of the year on a shot from the left side. Jones then set up goal two, passing the ball to the goal mouth where Mikaela DiBello tapped it in just 4:01 later and Kate Batzinger completed the scoring at 59:15 when she picked up the rebound of her own blocked shot and put it back into the net.

Kim Haab finished with nine saves for the Saints while Rachel Kaufman had three stops for RPI, which is 6-3 overall and 1-1 in Liberty League play.
