Gillian McCarthy hit a two-run double in the bottom of the seventh inning to lift the Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute softball team to a 4-3 come-from-behind victory over St. Lawrence University in game five of the 2012 Liberty League Tournament at Doris Robison Field.

The Engineers move to 26-13 and will face Rochester tomorrow in the Championship Game. Meanwhile, the Saints conclude their season with a 20-13 record, tied with the 2001 team for the most wins in a season in the program's history.

RPI found momentum in the top of its lineup heading into the bottom of the seventh inning with a 3-2 deficit. Jocilyn Rudisill and Sara Heller each singled to put runners on first and second for McCarthy, who hit a shot to right center field, which allowed both runners to cross home plate and seal the victory.

The game marked the fifth straight contest of the tournament that was decided by one run.

With the Engineers leading 1-0, the Saints answered in the top of the second as sophomore Leslie Stratton doubled to bring the equalizer across for a 1-1 score. The game remained locked at 1-1until the bottom of the third when Tori Hunt hit an RBI double to give RPI a one-run (2-1) lead.

St. Lawrence made some big defensive plays in the remainder of the inning and through the fourth to keep RPI's damage to a minimum. The Engineers' lead did not last for long as St. Lawrence grabbed momentum back in the top of the fifth. After senior Chelsea Hanno drew a walk, Stratton delivered what proved to be a clutch sacrifice bunt, advancing the runner to second. Junior Lauren Weisbarth followed and delivered an RBI double that tied the game at 2-2. The Saints captured the 3-2 lead after junior Chelsea Cavellier's hit up the middle brought home Weisbarth for the go-ahead run.

Kristina Weltzin got the win on the mound for RPI, allowing three runs on seven hits over 7.0 innings with two strikeouts. Junior Elizabeth McGinley suffered the loss, allowing four runs on 13 hits over 7.0 innings of work. Weisbarth went 2-for-4 with a run scored and an RBI, while Stratton was 2-for-3 with an RBI.
