Roos women’s volleyball sweeps Hartwick & Sage on Day 1 at Oswego State

Oswego, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team improved to 11-1 on the season with a pair of straight set victories vs. Hartwick College 3-0 (25-21, 27-25, 25-20) and Sage Colleges 3-0 (25-20, 25-17, 25-16) on the opening day of the Oswego State Tournament.

Game 1 - Box

The Roos were challenged in a tight opening match against Hartwick as both teams had eight kills in the opening set. Despite five more errors for SUNY Canton they were able to pull out the opening set 25-21. The Roos heated up in the second set behind 14 kills taking the frame 27-25 and finished it off in straight sets 25-20.

Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) tied the match-high with nine kills on just one error, while Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) and Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) tallied seven kills apiece. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) recorded a match-best 15 digs, while Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) added 13. Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) dished out a match-high 28 assists.

Game 2 – Box

SUNY Canton carried its momentum from the first match over into the second with 12 kills leading to a 25-20 first set victory. The Roos closed out a perfect day with 25-17 and 25-16 wins in the second and third sets.

Cornish had a monster match flooring 15 balls, while Bills and Riley finished with 10 and seven kills, respectively. Carroll compiled a team-high 17 digs and Bryer added 12, while Robinson dished out a match-high 38 assists.

The women's volleyball team is back in action in the second day of the Oswego State Tournament on Saturday when they square off with Utica College at 12 p.m. and host Oswego State at 2 p.m.
