Roos women's volleyball splits at Clarkson Invitational

Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team split a pair of matches on the first day of the Clarkson University Invitational on Friday. The Kangaroos (23-4) fell to the host Golden Knights, 3-0 (18, 25-, 17-25, 21-25) before coming back to defeat SUNY Brockport, 3-0 (25-22, 25-17, 25-19).

In the Roos opening match of the day against Clarkson the Golden Knights got out to a quick start with 16 kills in the opening set compared to just eight for SUNY Canton. The hosts took the second set as both teams struggled offensively and the Roos narrowly bounced back in the final set falling by just four points.

Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) recorded her second double-double of the season with 19 assists and 10 digs, while Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) tallied 15 digs. Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) and Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario) led the Roos with six kills apiece, while Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) and Cornish registered two service aces each.

SUNY Canton controlled play in its second match of the day using a strong .242 team hitting percentage to oust the Golden Eagles in straight sets. Cornish floored a match-high eight kills to go with six digs and Reynolds added seven kills. Bryer finished the match with nine digs and six kills and Carroll dug up eight balls to go with her match-high four service aces.

The women's volleyball team is back in action Saturday at the Clarkson Invitational when it takes on SUNY Geneseo at 2:00 p.m.
