Roos women's volleyball puts down Geneseo in straight sets

Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team picked up a big win defeating a tough SUNY Geneseo squad in straight sets Saturday afternoon at the Clarkson University Invitational. With the 3-0 (26-24, 25-22, 25-21) win the Kangaroos improve to 24-4 on the season. The Blue Knights fall to 10-17.

SUNY Canton used strong hitting in the opening frame to set the tone for the match as they finished with 15 kills and a .256 hitting percentage to claim a thrilling first set, 26-24. The Roos struggled in the second set producing just six kills compared to 11 for the Blue Knights. Despite the difference in put downs SUNY Canton was able to prevail 25-22 in a close second stanza.

The Roos used a strong finish to the match that included 12 kills and only four errors to close out a quality Geneseo squad in three sets.

Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) floored eight kills to go with her match-high six blocks and three digs. Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) put down eight balls on the day, while Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) tallied a match-high 24 assists along with five digs, two kills and two blocks.

Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) recorded seven kills and four digs to go with her match-high four service aces, while Emily Thomas (Horseheads, NY) pinpointed three aces of her own. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) finished with a team-high eight digs and a perfect hitting percentage on one kill.

The women's volleyball team is back in action next weekend at the Houghton College Invitational. The Roos take on University of Michigan-Dearborn and Hilbert College on Friday. Those matches are slated for 4:00 and 8:00 p.m., respectively.
