Potsdam, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team continued its impressive play sweeping both Utica College and Plattsburgh State on the second day of the Golden Knights Invitational on Saturday.

The Roos defeated the Pioneers 3-0 (25-19, 25-21, 25-12) before handling the Cardinals in straight sets 3-0 (25-13, 25-14, 25-18).

Match 1: Utica

Caitlin Grimshaw (Adams, NY) continued to show her dominance against Utica posting a match-high in kills for the second consecutive day as she had a career-high 17 putdowns to go with 11 digs. The 17 kills are the most by a Roo in the programs four year history.

Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) had a big match offensively with 11 kills, while Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) was solid defensively with a match-best 22 digs. Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) tallied 36 assists, nine digs and three service aces. Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, ON) and Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) had six kills apiece and combined for 23 digs.

After the first two sets were seemingly close the Roos dictated play in the final set to earn a commanding, 25-12 win to close out the match. SUNY Canton finished with 46 kills in the match included a remarkable 19 in the opening set.

Match 2: Plattsburgh

The Roos overcame two slow starts to record decisive victories in the first two sets, and then enjoyed a solid start in the third set and held on for a sweep of Plattsburgh State. The Kangaroos led by just a single point at 8-7, but were able to finish off the set with a 17-6 run.

The second set was more of the same, as the Cardinals led SUNY Canton midway through the game at 10-8, but the Roos quickly turned things around by winning seven of the next eight points for a four-point advantage, and then put together another run that saw them win 10 of the next 13. Though the final set was the closest of the three, it was never much in doubt, as Canton rushed out to a 7-1 lead and never looked back.

Bills produced a solid overall match for the Roos, hitting .500 (11-1-20) and adding in three aces and three block assists. Mynter had a double-double with 21 assists and 15 digs and Cornish contributed four aces. For Plattsbugh, Maggie Schrantz had a team-best five kills and a pair of aces, while Meghan Clifford ran the offense with 14 assists and Miranda Sheffer added 10 digs.
