Roos women's volleyball extends winning streak to 10 matches

Utica, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team defeated Alfred State College and Utica College Friday evening in the first day of the SUNY Institute of Technology Invitational. The Roos (13-1) swept the Pioneers 3-0 (25-18, 25-19, 25-9) before defeating Utica 3-1 (25-12, 25-18, 20-25, 25-8).

The Roos opened the day winning two close sets against Alfred State. SUNY Canton proved to be the aggressors as they finished with 34 kills in the match compared to just 16 for the Pioneers.

Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) and Jessica Reynolds (Oakville, Ontario) led the way with seven kills apiece while Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) tallied six kills. Reynolds also produced a match-high 10 digs while Mackenzie Mynter (Churchville, NY) dished out a match-best 26 assists to go with five digs, two aces and two solo blocks.

SUNY Canton's second match of the day proved to be more of a test but the team was up to the task downing Utica in four sets. The Roos produced a match-best 17 kills in the second set as they opened up a 2-0 lead. The Pioneers battled back taking the third set 25-20, but SUNY Canton showed its determination in the fourth set pounding out 10 kills and only three errors to win in convincing fashion, 25-8.

Cornish floored a match-high 12 kills to go with five digs and four aces, while Bills tallied 11 kills and four blocks. Mynter was impressive all over the court assisting on a match-best 36 kills to go with eight kills, six digs and three blocks. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, Ontario) dug up a match-best 11 balls, while Reynolds finished the match with nine kills.

The Roos are back in action tomorrow when they take on host SUNYIT at 12:00 p.m. followed by a 2:00 p.m. tilt with York (CUNY).
