Roos women’s volleyball closes out weekend with split

Oswego, NY – The SUNY Canton women's volleyball team closed out its play at the Oswego State Tournament with a split on Saturday. The Roos (11-2) swept Utica College 3-0 (26-24, 25-15, 25-13) before falling in straight sets to the host Lakers 3-0 (25-17, 25-18, 25-22).

Game 1 – Box

SUNY Canton pulled out a tight first set victory 26-24. The frame was played at an extremely high level as the two teams combined for 30 kills. The Roos seized the momentum of their first set victory to easily handle the Pioneers in the second and third sets giving up a combined 28 points.

Morgan Bills (Walworth, NY) led the way with 13 kills and four blocks, while Kelsy Cornish (Honeoye, NY) had an impressive double-double with 12 kills and 12 digs. Robyn Carroll (Bowmanville, ON) was a force defensively finishing with a match-best 18 digs. Lindsay Bryer (Wilson, NY) and Peyton Robinson (Bloomfield, NY) each posted nine digs, while Robinson added a match-high 29 assists.

Game 2 – Box

The Lakers (10-4) put up a strong performance to go undefeated at their home tournament in the final match of the day. Oswego State finished with a .267 hitting percentage in the match, compared to a .143 mark for the Roos.

Bills led the way once again with 10 kills as she hit .391 on 23 attack attempts. However, the rest of the team struggled as no other Roo finished with a hitting percentage of .250 or better. Haley Riley (Lowville, NY) finished with six kills, while Carroll added another 18 dig performance.

Bills and Carroll were named to the All-Tournament Team for their performances this weekend.
