Canton, NY – SUNY Canton women's soccer will feature 12 returning players and a new head coach in the upcoming 2013 season. First year Head Coach Sarah Arsenault is looking forward to getting preseason underway this weekend and improving on a 7-10-1 record from last year. The women's soccer team opens the 2013 schedule by hosting a six-team tournament Saturday, Aug. 31st and Sunday, Sept. 1st. There will be six games in two days and SUNY Canton will square off with Bay Path College Saturday at 2:00 p.m. before clashing with Wells College on Sunday at 3:00 p.m.

"I am extremely excited to kick-off the season," Arsenault said. "I feel tremendously grateful and blessed to have been chosen for this position. Arriving on campus in mid-April, I have had the opportunity to get to know most of the returners, and I am very happy with their positive attitudes as we embark on a new chapter for the SUNY Canton women's soccer program."

Arsenault joins the Roos with extensive coaching experience with high quality programs and was a standout player at Division II Slippery Rock University. She spent the last three years at Waynesburg University as the assistant men's and women's soccer coach and the previous three seasons prior at Hamilton College as assistant women's soccer coach. At Slippery Rock, she had a remarkable four-year career scoring an all-time school record 70 goals.

This year's schedule features 19 contests, including six home games. After its season-opening home tournament, the Roos hit the road for the next nine games against quality opponents like Hamilton College on Sept. 11th and SUNY Potsdam on September 25th. The Roos then return home for three consecutive tilts in a four-day span when they host SUNY ESF, Clarkson University and Johnson State College on October 6th, 8th and 9th, respectively. The final home game of the 2013 schedule comes on October 16th against SUNYIT before the team closes out the season with three road contests.

2013 Schedule

The Roos return six of their top 11 scorers from last season including sophomore standout Karley Cree (Hogansburg, NY) who tallied a team-best 21 points on eight goals and five assists in 2012. The team will also look to experienced senior Katlyn Hart (Harrisville, NY) who registered four goals and three assists for 11 points to lead the team from her midfield position. Sophomores Franchesca Trombley (Dekalb Junction, NY) and Karyss Terrance (Hogansburg, NY) bring back a combined nine points on three goals and three assists.

2012 Statistics

"We have a solid group of returners this fall, as well as 10 incoming players who I believe will have a positive impact on our success this season," Arsenault said. "I feel that we are ready to work hard, learn, and grow as a team to bring the women's soccer team to a new level of success. My hope is to have the SUNY Canton women's soccer team become well-known throughout NCAA Division III, both athletically and academically."

With an abundance of returning scoring ready to jumpstart the offense and a number of strong incoming recruits the 2013 women's soccer team will look to improve under the direction of Coach Arsenault. The Roos open their season August 31st against Bay Path College at 2:00 p.m.
